Wiring of power meters & power analyzers

The Amperecloud Log supports the following connection types for meters, which are explained on this page:

  • S0 pulses
  • Modbus-RTU (RS-485)
  • Modbus-TCP (Ethernet)

Other connections on request. A list of compatible meters can be found here:

Meters & grid analyzers

S0-Impulse

2

① Connect the positive signal (+) of the meter to the 5V output of the logger (Pin 1).
② Connect the negative signal (-) of the meter to one of the S0(+) inputs of the logger.
③ Install a jumper between the corresponding S0(-) input of the logger and ground (Pin 2).

ℹ NOTE

If the meter signals are bipolar, steps ① and ② can be swapped.

ℹ NOTE

The instructions assume meters with galvanically isolated, potential-free contacts. Since the logger inputs are also potential-free, an auxiliary voltage is used, and the negative input of the logger is bridged to ground.

RS-485 (Modbus-RTU)

The meter should be connected to the Amperecloud Log according to its manual and the following diagram.

For more details, refer to the page Connection via RS-485.

NOTE

Unless otherwise specified, we recommend connecting the meters to RS-485 Port No. 2, as Port 1 is usually used for inverters and Port 3 for remote control technology.

WARNING

For meters from the manufacturer Janitza, the A and B signals must always be swapped.

6

Ethernet (Modbus-TCP)

Integrate the meter into the same network as the Amperecloud Log and the corresponding router. The Amperecloud Log will automatically connect to meters in the network and apply the configuration from the digital twin, provided it has been set up correctly.

WARNING

Please ensure that the meter is reachable from the Amperecloud Platform network. Refer to the meter's documentation for details.

Assign static IP addresses to the devices.
