Why does a remote controllability test have to be carried out for the use of direct marketing?

The implementation of a remote controllability test for EEG systems is necessary for several reasons:

1. Legal requirements according to EEG 2021:

  • According to Section 10b of the Renewable Energy Sources Act (EEG) 2021, systems in direct marketing must have a technical device that enables them to reduce their feed-in power remotely. This regulation is mandatory for participation in direct marketing and serves to ensure compliance with legal regulations.

2. Avoidance of negative electricity prices:

  • In times of high feed-in of volatile energy sources such as wind and solar, negative electricity prices can occur on the exchange. The ability to reduce the feed-in remotely helps to avoid such negative price peaks and contributes to the stability of the electricity market.

3. Ensuring grid stability:

  • Remote controllability enables grid operators and direct marketers to react to grid situations in real time by adjusting the feed-in power of the system. This is important in order to avoid overloads and ensure the stability of the electricity grid.

4. Full remuneration during the marketing period:

  • Without functioning remote controllability, plant operators would not be able to receive the full remuneration under the market premium schemes. The regulation ensures that the feed-in tariff is adjusted to the actual market conditions.

Note:

It usually takes up to four weeks to establish the remote control capability of a system.
