Integration of Webcams into the Amperecloud Platform

Integration of Webcams into the Amperecloud Platform

Webcams offer an effective way to visually monitor locations and facilities, especially in situations with increased security requirements or for monitoring the status of equipment. The Amperecloud platform allows the integration of such webcams to incorporate live images and updates directly into the system. This article explains how webcams can be integrated into the Amperecloud platform using FTP push and what steps are necessary to achieve this.

Step 1: Preparation and Setup of the Data Logger

First, a new data logger must be created in the digital twin of the facility. This data logger acts as the interface between the webcam and the Amperecloud platform. The naming should be chosen so that the data logger can be easily identified. It is recommended to use the format [Facility Name] Webcam.

Instructions:

- Navigate to the data logger management in the digital twin of the facility.
- Create a new data logger.
- Name this data logger with a clear name, e.g., [Facility Name] Webcam.

Step 2: Creation of the FTP Data Logger

The next step is to create an FTP data logger. This data logger acts as the receiver for the images sent by the webcam.

Instructions:

- Go to the FTP Data Logger section in the Amperecloud platform.
- Create a new FTP data logger.
- Select "Webcam (JPEG)" as the type.
- Use the name of the previously created data logger from the digital twin to ensure consistency.
- Link this FTP data logger with the data logger from the digital twin.

Step 3: Configuration of the Webcam

Now, the FTP credentials generated by the FTP data logger must be configured in the webcam. The webcam must be FTP-push capable to upload the images to the Amperecloud platform at regular intervals or when motion is detected.

Instructions:

- Access the settings of the webcam.
- Enter the FTP credentials (address, username, password) that you received from the FTP data logger.
- Set the upload interval to 15 minutes, or select the "on motion" option. This prevents the platform from being flooded with too many images.

Step 4: Verification of the Connection

After successful configuration and connection, you should see a "Last Contact" entry in the FTP data logger section of the Amperecloud platform. This indicates that the webcam is successfully sending images.

Instructions:

- Navigate to the data logger overview in the Amperecloud platform.
- Check the "Last Contact" of the FTP data logger.

Step 5: Integration into the Dashboard

Once the webcam images are successfully received, they can be displayed on the dashboard of the Amperecloud platform.

Instructions:

- Go to the dashboard configuration.
- Add a new element and select "Webcam".
- Enter the webcam data logger, which was created in the digital twin of the facility, as the device.

Result:

If the integration is successful, the latest images from the webcam should be visible on the dashboard. Note that only the most recent images are displayed; older images are removed after a certain number.
